The Abbey Community and The Salvation Army
One of the ideas we are trying to cultivate is community involment. What can we do for Kelowna? With this question in mind we teamed up with The Salvation Army to man the kettles, sort donations, assemble boxes and hand out hampers. It was wonderful as around 1/3 of our community was able to be involved. Most of the volunteering took pace during the weekday so some found it hard to fit it into their work schedule but those who could were rewarded with many thanks. We had a record take at London Drugs on our day with the Salvation Army Kettles, I think it had a little to do with the fact that we refused to go inside but put up with near record cold so we could get people coming and going while ringing the jingle bells to be noticed. So we look forward to finding new ways to help out in our community as spring arrives, eventually!
